Shape memory alloy fiber – matrix compounds

  Shape memory alloy fiber

The combination of classical construction materials like steel, wood or concrete with functional materials will offer new possibilities for engineering constructions. The chair of structural analysis and dynamics is concerned with mechanical modelling and the computational analysis of shape memory alloy fiber – matrix compounds. This alloy has the capability to remember its old shape after a remanent deformation was applied. The so-called shape memory effect is initialized by heat supply. In the context of a fiber – matrix compound this effect could be utilized for the fibers to prestress the matrix material. The chair of structural analysis and dynamics is concerned with the mathematical modeling of the material behavior and the finite element implementation.
